    Unique Gift Ideas + Discounts

By Chandra Fredrick | Dec 6

Unique + Thoughtful Gift Ideas for Everyone | Oh Lovely DayI’ve shared lots of gift ideas this week, but I also had a few unique gift ideas that didn’t quite fit into any of my guides. If you’re looking for something a bit more creative than another toy, another sweater, or ‘thing’ – these are for you.

    1. For the person who wishes they could leave holiday decor up all year long: one of these hand painted antlers or knot ornaments from Made by Cassandra Smith are perfect for a holiday tree or mantle, but also fit in with your decor for the whole year (my antler is always on my mantle!) – use code OHLOVELY2013 to get 15% off anything in her etsy shop (expires end of day 12/20/13).

    2. For the person who loves to learn and grow: an Atly class to learn something new. I think this is such a fun gift idea and there are so many cool class ideas. And I plan to teach a class in the coming year too, so look out for that announcement.

    3. For the newlyweds who got everything off their registry: a string art monogram or home state from Ramble and Roost.

    4. For the boy or girl (or adult!) who likes a little whimsy and fantasy: a unicorn or dragon faux taxidermy head from Near and Deer.

    5. For the toddler or preschooler that likes activities (and don’t they all!?): an ‘M is For Monster’ subscription - use code OHLOVELYDAY to get 15% off your first order.

And here are a few gift/nice gesture ideas for some of the other people in your life:

For the new parents: a babysitting offer, a gift card for take out from their favorite restaurant, or a voucher for a few hours of free housecleaning.

For your kiddo’s teachers: An ornament or DIY snow globe with a homemade note from your kiddo, or a gift card to a learning store or teacher supply store.

A coffee gift card or home-baked goods and a nice note for your mail carrier, handyman, and anyone else that takes good care of you all year long.

And if you just want to spread good cheer to all, Jacin of Lovely Little Details made some super cute downloadable elf tags to go with a coffee gift card, or without. To download and print your own copy, click here for the “coffee elf” tags and here for the “elf” tags. I love these so much.

What are your favorite unique gift ideas? I’m always looking for new and creative ideas!

And if you missed any, here are my other gift guides this week: for her, for him, for the kiddos, for your hostess.

*Atly and M is For Monster are sponsors of Oh Lovely Day, though the items in my gift guides are chosen because I love them and would love to gift or get them.

    Gift Guide for Littles

By Chandra Fredrick | Dec 4

Holiday Gift Guide For Littles | 22 gifts your kiddo (age 3 and up) will love | Oh Lovely Day

I’ve gift guided the ladies and the fellas, so now it’s time for the littles! This one is harder, because I could do gift guides for just boys, just girls, and each age range. But I won’t. So I gathered some of my favorite things for boys, girls, and some toys both will love (I’m steering clear of the obvious baby dolls, cars, trains, etc.). And I only have a three year old, but I think these are a range of gifts that kids from 3-10 or so would like. I sort of want those bestie tattoos for myself, and how cool is that astronaut bedding!? And Dragons Love Tacos is Charlie’s absolute favorite book, and if it isn’t in your kiddo’s library it needs to be ASAP. Click on the photo below to purchase or get more info. Happy shopping!

    Gift Guide For Him

By Chandra Fredrick | Dec 3

Holiday Gift Guide For Him | 22 gifts any man in your life will love | Oh Lovely DayYesterday I shared my gift guide for her, so today it’s the fellas’ turn. And I have to tell you, I have more fun putting together the gifts for guys than I do the girls, and you know the gifts for her guide is basically my own wishlist, right? That’s how much I love buying gifts for others. Keeping it fair, I found 22 ideas for the guys in your life, but here the prices range from under $10 to under $200. There’s something for everyone (and a couple I know my husband would LOVE). Click through the photo to purchase the item. And don’t worry, just because cyber Monday is over doesn’t mean the deals are. Some stores, like J.Crew, are having even better sales today! Happy shopping (again).

    Advent Calendar Ideas & Activities

By Chandra Fredrick | Nov 30

advent calendar round up | oh lovely dayI think advent calendars are such a fun way to countdown to Christmas and also a creative way to incorporate some family holiday spirit. My mom passed down my childhood advent calendar (this retro wall hanging with pockets numbered 1-24 and you move a mouse into each number) and I’m going to add activities and little trinkets into the pockets to make it even more fun. I’ve rounded up some of my favorite advent calendars in the below (click through to get to the original DIY source or where you can purchase) and have included some fun advent calendar activities to we’ll be doing below. Calendar above from The Land of Nod.

    Decorate the Christmas tree.

Watch a Christmas movie (my faves: Love Actually, Christmas Vacation, and Elf).

Watch an old school Christmas cartoon with Charlie (Frosty, Rudolph, Charlie Brown, etc.)

Make an ornament to hang on the tree.

    Make Christmas cookies.

    Mail holiday cards.

    Download a new Christmas song.

Go to the movies (this year Frozen is our family friendly holiday film)

    Sing Christmas carols.

Go see Christmas lights in the neighborhood.

    Have a holiday date night.

Make Hot Chocolate and Homemade Marshmallows

Have Charlie choose one of his toys to donate to a less fortunate child. (teaches giving and sharing)

    Bake something for neighbors.

Make a wreath and hang it.

    Make a popcorn garland

    Read The Night Before Christmas.

Have a Christmas song dance party (All I Want For Christmas Is You)

Go to The Grove for fake snow (or drive to the mountains to see real snow).

Read and watch How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

    Go see the Zoo lights.

Go to Disneyland during the holiday season.

Open a gift (usually new pajamas for Christmas night)

Participate in a toy or coat drive.

    Host a holiday party.

    Try a new holiday cocktail.

Light a yummy smelling holiday candle.

    Sit on Santa’s lap.

Get a family photo by the Christmas tree.

What are your favorite advent calendar ideas? Will you be doing one with your family?
