Who knew that a show about a British aristocratic household in the early 1900’s on PBS could be so addicting? If you’re not watching Downton Abbey, you may be the only one. This season premiered with a long-awaited wedding, so you know I was inspired.

I thought Lady Mary’s bridal style would translate today into a simple modern look, with a sleek and simple boat neck gown, a pretty laurel headband, and a Calla lily bouquet, of course.

The J.Crew gown is simple, but the back is a bit more daring, to add a little drama to your look. The gold laurel wreath headband is a modern take on Lady Mary’s own. The calla lily bouquet should be small and simple. Add a cathedral length veil (in my opinion, it should always be a birdcage veil or a cathedral veil and nothing in between) and you’re the modern Lady Mary.
So tell me, are you a Downton Abbey addict as well? Do you love Lady Mary’s bridal style, or do you think it should stay in the 1900’s? I personally think it would be gorgeous on the right bride with a simple and modern style.

Hello. We at Lucky Sixpence (vintage tiaras, bands, cobs and jewellery) love lady Mary’s bridal look. We thought one of our bands were rather like Lady Mary’s…and even better it is made with vintage original prices.
